Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Netflix franchise is getting a virtual reality game adaptation in Sandbox VR locations around the world.
Rebel Moon: The Descent isn’t an adaptation of Snyder’s films, but rather an expansion of the universe, two critically acclaimed films released on Netflix so far. “The Rebel Moon experience lets you step into the exciting sci-fi franchise that has taken the world by storm,” said Sandbox VR. website.
Sandbox VR offers virtual reality experiences where multiple players can enter a space and play games with motion tracking, imitation guns and such.
“Explore the world of Daggus and descend through towering skyscrapers, gritty city streets and an underground mine as you battle enemy soldiers, spaceships and more,” reads the synopsis. “Choose which Rebel Fighter represents your style, equip yourself with futuristic weapons and fight the tyrannical Mother World.”
Rebel Moon gained momentum before its release as Justice League director Snyder’s next big project, when he revealed even more. it was originally pitched as a Star Wars film and he wanted to create his own universe.
In the same vein, Snyder said he was working on a “ridiculous scale” Rebel Moon video game around this timethough it’s not clear if he meant this Sandbox VR game or something else. “This (role-playing game) that we’re doing is literally crazy, and so immersive, and so intense, and so huge,” Snyder said.
Momentum stalled somewhat with the release of Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire, however, when it won. bad reviews including 4/10 from IGN. “Zack Snyder’s space opera is let down by a derivative patchwork script, mediocre action sequences and a shallow story,” we said.
Its sequel received the same rating. “The second installment of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon space opera, The Scargiver, gives a half-baked ending to a well-trodden story with weak character analysis and lackluster action.”
