We know the Games are Coming
First, let’s take a look at what’s to come from the all-important PlayStation Studio. by Sucker Punch Yotei’s Ghost It certainly looks like a headline attraction, and it’s coming to PS5 in 2025. Sequel to the 2020 open-world samurai adventure, Ghost of Tsushima it will be amazing as we introduce a new hero and a location in Northern Japan. Let’s hope we can find some gameplay trailers early next year or in the summer before the winter release.
There is also Fairgames The debut game from Haven Studios. It’s a multiplayer shooter, so it will be fascinating to see what lessons PlayStation has learned from the Concord live service debacle. First revealed in 2023, we haven’t seen the game yet, but hopefully that doesn’t mean it won’t hit its 2025 release date target.
And…those are the only PlayStation Studios games we know of currently scheduled for release in 2025. And since the actual release dates aren’t locked in yet, we can hardly tell what to expect in each part of the year. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be more big games coming to the PS5 next year, and we can certainly theorize what else we might see from Sony’s first-party stable.
Now we know that Naughty Dog’s next adventure will take us to the stars Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet . We don’t expect to be playing it in 2025 though, but we’ll happily eat up any more information Neil Druckmann and team want to share about it, especially if it includes some of those laser blade games.
the marathon he has a lot of weight on his shoulders, not just because he will be Bungie’s first full release since being bought by Sony but along with Fairgames, it’ll be PlayStation’s big new live-action shooter that’s quickly fading Concord’s footsteps. The fate The developers have as strong a shooter pedigree as any in the business, so it will certainly be interesting to see the outcome of their work as they look to resurrect the long-running ’90s series as a multiplayer extraction shooter.
Could that be 2025? Death Stranding 2: On the Beach emerging from its greasy cocoon? Hideo Kojima was at The Game Awards but didn’t bring a new trailer. Unacceptable behavior if you ask me. Are we any closer to knowing what it’s about? Who can say, but we definitely want to play. And the sooner you do it, the sooner Kojima gets to work Physint The next stealth-action PlayStation exclusive from the Metal Gear master.
As for third-party exclusives, few are expected.
As far as third-party exclusives go, few are expected, especially if you like big swords. Phantom Blade Zero It looks set to be a brilliant hack-and-slash action RPG from Chinese studio S-Game. A semi-open world samurai bloodbath with soul-like elements certainly won’t lack style. They haven’t given a release date yet, but let’s hope for next year.
Speaking of shovels, Where the winds meet It’s a PS5 exclusive RPG set in ancient China. Set in the Age of Ten Kingdoms, you’ll step into the shoes of a warrior wielding influence over dynasties, shaping history with the tip of your sword, as well as mystical and magical abilities. Originally slated for 2024 before being pushed back to add more content to its vast, sprawling world, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it finally arrive in the next 12 months.
But wait, there are more swords and even bigger blades inside Ballad of Antara Coming to PS5 in 2025, a free-to-play co-op action RPG packed with multiple protagonists and a tangled storyline. We’ll get a better look soon, with a beta promised to be on the way.
Think we’re done with swords? Think again. The following game also has one in the title: Sword of the sea . You don’t use this to fight, though; instead, you’ll put your feet up and speed along, Tony Hawk and Metaphor: ReFantasia style. From Abzû and The Pathless studio’s Giant Squid, the reveal trailer couldn’t help but remind us of Journey, with a mysterious cloaked figure roaming the vast wastelands of the desert.
Another pretty cool announcement, which only appeared in September’s State of Play, The Midnight Walk Moonhood Studios is the next game from Lost in Random. A handmade clay adventure, it will be one of the most striking sights of 2025. It will also be released on PS VR2. At least that long-forgotten little guy is helping.
The final PS5 console exclusive we’ll be highlighting is a game we wrote about this time last year in our 2024 PlayStation preview. Hopefully, 2025 will finally be the year we clumsily shuffle around the world. Baby Steps . Exclusive to the PS5 console, the team of developers behind Getting Over It and Ape Out looks equally as funny as it is sad.
These might be exclusives, but 2025 will see more cross-platform games coming out that will make it an incredible year for PlayStation gamers. With the arrival of IIndiana Jones and the Great Circle To the PS5, it’s there Elden Ring Nightreign , Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 , Assassin’s Creed Shadows , Monster Hunter Wilds , Mafia: Old Town , Judas , Borderlands 4 , Doom: The Dark Ages and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to name a few. Oh, and it’s called a little game Grand Theft Auto 6 . It could be good. Who knows
Hopes and Dreams
Now for the fun: the part where we can cross our fingers and create games that don’t exist yet, but may be right in front of our eyes in 2025.
Insomniac has had a relatively quiet year – for a studio that releases new releases with such regularity, that is – but it’s understandable given that it’s still on the mend. Data breach suffered at the end of 2023 . We know that Wolverine it is in the works but we still don’t know exactly when it will be available to us. And, if rumors are to be believed, a Venom game will arrive before then. While we won’t be seeing any of these superhero stories play out for the next 12 months, we might have a clearer picture of what’s coming from the Spidey studio.
The same can be said for Santa Monica Studio. What’s next for the God of War developer is a mystery, although we do know that Cory Barlog – the game director of 2018’s God of War – was heading a new project in 2021. After Eric Williams left to fill the director seat of Ragnarok . Could we see what Barlog’s game is in 2025?
The 100 best PlayStation games of all time
As for other studios, can we expect Guerrilla Games to delve further into the world of Horizon An online multiplayer game is said to be in development In Amsterdam developers? And it’s been a long time since Bend was released Days Gone -almost six whole years, in fact- and the studios do he stated that he is doing another open world adventure . Apart from that we know little, but it can be said that we would like to learn more.
In truth, we know very little about what’s down the road for many of Sony’s first studios, so don’t be surprised if the PS5 turns out to be another relatively quiet year in 2025. We would be delighted. be wrong, though, and be pleasantly surprised by a slew of appearances and releases.
Finally, it could Sony’s interest in acquiring the giant company Kadokawa (which, along with a large portfolio of anime, is also owned by FromSoftware) will eventually lead to a Bloodborne remaster or sequel? I know we said it’s hopes and dreams…but don’t be silly.
Hardware and Technology
When it comes to hardware, Sony has been very busy over the past couple of years PS VR2 , PlayStation Portal and PS5 Pro all released to varying degrees of success. As a result, we expect things to be calmer on the hardware front by 2025. However, this may be the year we see the PS5 Pro justify itself more as an expensive upgrade if games like Ghost of Yotei and GTA 6 launch. to push the basic PlayStation 5 to its limits. It will certainly be interesting to see how developers embrace this new technology over the next year or so, and if we start to see really impressive comparisons between the original PS5 and the Pro.
But while we expect the actual hardware releases to be hush-hush, we’ve heard whispers that 2025 could herald new PlayStation technology. Could we see Sony take another stab at the handheld market? Paste some internal storage into the Portal. I’m not qualified in hardware engineering, but how hard can it be, guys? In all seriousness, though, if recent reports are to be believed, we may be seeing a successor to the PSP and PS Vita next year, or at least an announcement of one.
Let’s be honest, it’s all fiction, right? Do you have any theories and hopes for what we’ll see from PlayStation in 2025? Let us know in the comments below, as well as what you’re most excited to play.
