When players first arrive at Créche Y’llek Baldur’s Gate 3They are able to find a document that talks about the mysterious Lathunder blood It can be a powerful weapon for the player. While searching for it, they find a strange piece of amber, with a few drops of blood inside.
At first glance, this looks like so-called blood, but it is not. In fact, players will hold this amber for a while before they realize they’re not using it.
This raises the question: What is this strange piece of amber, and what is its relationship to… Lathunder bloodAnd what is it actually used for?
Fortunately, all of these questions have simple answers.
What is a strange piece of amber?
When you first get the piece of amber, Tuff will make a remark about how strange it is that this is the alleged “blood” the document was talking about, simply because of the few drops of blood hanging inside.
You can find this amber dep with Créche Yearin the area where you encounter Ch’r’ai W’wargaz (and possibly fight him). Specifically, it’s in one of his side rooms.
However, this piece of amber is just a decoy to distract players from searching for the actual Blood of Lathander. You cannot sell it or dispose of it by any means other than sending it to camp. Otherwise, it simply takes up space in your inventory.
Realistically, the best thing you can do when you come across a piece of amber is not pick it up. That is unless you want someone in your group to pick it up and do a religion check if you want to hear what they have to say about it.
Otherwise, it’s just a trick, a distraction – nothing more, nothing less.
Where is the actual Thunder blood?
Before you find the strange piece of amber, it’s important to do one thing first: Before you officially enter the nursery, there’s a small room in Rosemorne Abbey filled with stained glass.
You can either choose to solve this puzzle, or simply send Astarion back to lock the wall (DC 30). When you do this, you’ll find a sheet describing the Blood of Lathander, and an emblem. Keep this motto if you want to live the encounter. At the place where you get the strange piece of amber, you’ll notice that there are two different statues, each holding a sun.
Reading the descriptions of each will describe the sunrise and sunset, so rotate the statues so that the rising sun faces east, and the setting sun faces west (you’ll have to either throw something at the statue or cast a spell on it to make it budge).
When this is done, a secret door will reveal itself from the wall, splitting the bricks until you have a clear path. When you do, follow the path, disarming traps along the way until you reach a large room where the Blood of Lathander remains hanging.
Use the logo, and you can get the weapon smoothly. If you don’t have the crest – well, you better hope you can find a way to escape in time before the entire Créche collapses on you, killing everyone instantly.
