The creator of Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus is working on a giant robot pilot game.

Fumito Yuda is the visionary behind ICO (a little boy saves a little boy from an evil castle), Shadow of the Colossus (a sad boy kills several giant stone beasts), The last guard (A little boy and a giant, dopey dog ​​escape from another evil castle.) Now, it’s onto the Gundams, though the little guys still seem to behave. Epic Games Publishing has unveiled Ueda and genDESIGN’s latest creation – Project: Robot. Find a trailer below.

To repeat that footage, the boy apparently sets up the giant robot to self-destruct in order to defeat that tsunami of evil black goop. He then flies into a robot’s head – a sequence that reminds me of the anime Guren Lagan. You see, I’m struggling to come to a proper conclusion because I’m so tired of saying this nicely. It’s 3am here. You don’t have to write about Fumito Yuda’s games at 3am – they require a little more thought than the frustration of gaming awards, I’d say.

There isn’t much to say beyond the trailer, though it does have a bunch of text at the end in a surprisingly narrow and illegible font. It might just be the credits, but maybe there’s a hidden conclusion in there. I’ll try to figure it out when I can see straight.

Tiredness and hype aside, I love Fumito Yudan’s stuff and it’s good to see that he and his colleagues are still putting out funny originals. A less committed soul will now do Echo 2: Icon. Project Robot looks a lot closer in style to The Last Guardian because you’re a little guy riding a big thing. I fear that the game will make me form an emotional attachment to the giant robot, and then destroy me in a heartbreakingly tragic way. Mind you, we saw the robot’s head get cut off. So maybe it’s more of a tool than a friend.
