The best 5G phones in 2025

Despite being a first generation, the OnePlus Open is a very impressive foldable phone that shows a high level of polish. Designed with multitasking in mind, this sweet little device introduces a brand new feature called “Canvas,” which essentially acts as a large whiteboard that extends beyond the phone’s display area. This allows you to open up to three apps side by side on the screen, with two in view and the third outside the display area. You can switch between each app with a simple tap of your finger, making it a dream for work, play, and anything else.

Of course, the center of attention for any foldable device is the display, and the OnePlus Open really impressed us here – so much so that our review describes it as “one of the best foldable displays” to date. This is due in large part to its nearly invisible crease, and the impressive consistency between the main and cover displays, which show little difference in sharpness, color reproduction, or refresh rate. Its performance lives up to the display’s brilliance, too, thanks to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This ensures a very smooth experience no matter what tasks you are doing, be it browsing, taking photos or diving in Best mobile games.

With OnePlus boasting that the device is “made to the max of aerospace materials” (titanium alloy, carbon fiber, and more), it has a truly premium feel, and in our review we describe it as “quite an eye-catcher.” It’s extremely comfortable, and despite its bi-fold design, dual displays, and all that high-end hardware inside, it’s surprisingly light. It can fit comfortably in the smallest of hands – that is, as long as you’re comfortable with its thickness. It also supports dual cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 and n71 5G, which means it’s fast, smooth, stable, and ready for the future.

On top of all that, the OnePlus Open’s cameras are truly top-notch, with us describing it as “the first OnePlus phone to have the kind of camera setup we consider flagship-grade without the cost cuts.” Thanks to its partnership with Hasselblad, the cameras have a distinct optical feel, and their 3x telephoto lens allows for some great photos.

In terms of battery, its 4,800 mAh capacity means it can last for more than six hours on a normal day. It’s not the most impressive, but it’s still impressive considering it powers two displays. The only real downsides to the OnePlus Open are its lack of wireless charging and basic IP rating, the latter of which means it’s not up to standard in terms of dust and waterproofing. Its OxygenOS 14 operating system also comes with some bugs and feels a bit unpolished, but we think OnePlus is likely to iron out these issues over time, considering how new it is.

Overall, we’re really impressed with this device, and it definitely deserves its place on this list as the best 5G foldable phone. If you want to learn more, be sure to check out our website OnePlus open review.
