  • Arcade game? Yes

I’ve been looking forward to Fable ever since First teaser trailernearly five (!) years ago, where nothing but a voiceover, an epic background, and a fairy unlucky to be swallowed by a frog was enough to get us all excited for a Fable reboot.

We’ve seen several excellent trailers since then (boosted by select appearances from Matt King — Peep Show’s Super Hans — among others) that looked very promising. These trailers contain a few gameplay snippets, and hopefully we’ll see more soon now that Fable is set to launch in 2025.

It will be one of the biggest releases of the year and will see our character juggling her heroic reputation and Albion’s new dark threat. We’ve been waiting and writing about this game for so long that it seems strange that we might be playing it next year – bring on Fable 4!

Kingdom Come: The Second Redemption

I can’t wait for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The first game was a breath of fresh air – I usually love magic and dragons in a medieval setting, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance leaned into the historical setting and realistic aspects (even the quests revolved around Henry learning to read) and it was a huge success.

Part Two sees Henry Skalitz once again wandering through 15th century Bohemia. The theme of revenge still plays a role in Henry’s story, but while his journeys in the first game often introduced him to some of the biggest figures and most dangerous cases of the time, one of his best skills is wandering through all walks of life and finding some things. Great (and completely ridiculous) adventures on the road. I’m hoping for more of that in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

The only thing that ever held the first game back was that it outdid itself with its ambitions. It was still amazing, despite the bugs and rough edges, and with the sequel having the opportunity to build on and improve on what came before, I can’t wait to see what chaos Henry gets up to in the Middle Ages.

Battlefield 6

2025 most anticipated picks

  • release date: To be determined later
  • Platforms: Possibly Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5
  • Arcade game? no

I’ve always loved the Battlefield series ever since Battlefield 1942 started back in 2002, and I’ve jumped into every new entry at launch since then – I still naively dream of another 2142-style entry. Anyway back to the topic at hand..

After the poor reception Battlefield 2042 received, DICE seems to be listening to its fans and I can’t wait to see what the team has to offer with Battlefield 6. It doesn’t have a release window yet, but the consensus is that it will be released sometime in October 2025 alongside a spin-off game Free in Warzone style.

So far, we know that Battlefield 6 will ditch the specialist system and bring back classes, and we should see maps closer to the classic games, so the focus can be on 64-player matches again. Other than that, EA is keeping things close to its chest, but reports suggest we’ll be getting a single-player campaign again, so that could be something exciting to look forward to.

I couldn’t even guess how many hours I’ve spent on this franchise since I was 11 – I’m not sure I want to know!

Death: The Dark Ages

We all saw the reveal of Doom: The Dark Ages during the Xbox Games Show in June, right? I mean there’s absolutely nothing in that trailer that I don’t like; Slaying Hellspawn in a medieval setting with an impressive array of weapons makes for a relaxing evening well spent.

In less than two minutes, this trailer gives us a look at the Doom Slayer tearing apart demons with a sharp-edged shield, a bat, a bone-shredding skull crusher… oh, and a Drago mecha! Did I mention Atlan – the massive mecha that you can fight massive demons with? Well, yeah, that’s in there too. Doom: The Dark Ages feels like a bloodthirsty thrill ride, and I can’t wait to bring pain to any demons who dare stand in my way.

We don’t have a release date yet, but Doom: The Dark Ages will launch on Xbox Series

Grand Theft Auto VI

I don’t think an explanation is needed here, Rockstar releasing a new game is always a huge event and I always look forward to it. However, with Grand Theft Auto VI, somehow, Rockstar has to top one of the greatest games of all time with GTA 5. How they’ll do that, I have no idea, but I can’t wait to explore everything there is. On the road.

Having a large, detailed, open world to explore, full of secrets, violence, and exciting quests to complete never gets old. This is especially true when it’s made to Rockstar’s usual high standards (let’s just forget the Definitive Edition ports).

I’m also looking forward to what Rockstar has in store for GTA 6 Online. I’ve wasted hundreds of hours playing GTA Online with my friends, all without spending a dime on silly microtransactions, and I hope I can relive that experience again.

Resistance elite sniper

I love the Sniper Elite series; I mean, who wouldn’t love shooting Nazis with that cool X-ray kill cam? Fortunately, Rebellion is bringing a new entry in the franchise to Game Pass in January with Sniper Elite Resistance, and we’ll be able to experience a new campaign set during World War II and explore a host of new sandbox environments primed for stealth sniping tricks.

I recently played Sniper Elite Resistance, which is very similar to Sniper Elite 5, which is only a good thing. You’re released into a large open area to complete optional tasks to tick off your list as well. While it’s easier to sneak through a level and dispatch Nazi soldiers slowly and methodically, you can also cause chaos by using loud machine guns and explosives – the choice is yours.

However, there is a new type of mission that I haven’t been able to try out called propaganda missions. Here, you’ll locate hidden propaganda posters on the map and play as a French Resistance fighter to complete special objectives, such as killing a certain number of enemies without being detected or using specific gear. It looks fun and adds another interesting mechanic to the world of Sniper Elite.

These are our top picks for our most anticipated games coming to Xbox in 2025 – how about you? Any upcoming major releases that you’re interested in, or anything that might be a competitor to Best Game Pass games? Let us know in the comments!
