We’re excited to announce that after nearly two decades, the Onimusha series is returning with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, an all-new sword action game coming in 2026.

Onimusha debuted with Onimusha: Warlords in 2001, with sword combat based on “Issen” counterattack mechanics. Introduced as a staple of the series, the mysterious Oni Gauntlet was granted the ability to absorb the souls of Genma, who were deformed, monstrous creatures from another world.

At The Game Awards 2024, we’re back with a swing – or should we say a slash. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Kyoto in the early Edo period. A nefarious malevolence has transformed the historic city into a dark, twisted haven for the return of the demonic Genma.
