You’ve probably made an assumption based on my surprise title that I didn’t enjoy it Squid gameSeason two. It would be wrong to do so. Once again, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk deserves credit, as he has woven an exciting and complex story that is a stark mirror of society. Squid game Provides a fascinating examination of our obsession with power. You can’t blame the contestants for participating in the games – they of course don’t understand the amount of pre-entry. These are people who find themselves in difficult financial circumstances. This is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to seeking stability and comfortable means of living.
It is not the desire for money from the contestants Squid game Concerned with. It’s much more interested in highlighting those who seek power to dictate those people’s livelihoods inside and outside of games (I’m thinking of The Salesman and the scratch card scene when it comes to that last point). The Front Man, in collusion with his employees and the game’s donors, cruelly uses the illusion of simplicity—that is, childhood games—to manipulate the lives of those in poverty, creating a harsh environment where despite stark odds, they believe they might have a chance.
Let’s not forget that games are designed to cater to those who are ruthless, cruel, and cunning. Officials are not just manipulating people’s lives and livelihoods. They encourage good people to give in to the worst traits of humanity, all in the name of survival. Why? For the thrill? To feel like a god? Well, yes to both of the above. Il-nam, player 001 of the first season and the creator of the games, admitted this last time. You only have to look at The Front Man, In-ho, who happens to be Player 001 of the year in an attempt to “enlighten” Gi-hun about the purpose of the games, to see how corrupt they can be.
This is the man who won the 2015 edition. He was supposed to be enjoying his newfound financial stability, but instead found himself disfigured by what the games had done to him. Unlike Gi-hun who seeks to put an end to the Games once and for all, In-ho is simply intent on continuing his power-hungry manipulation of the contestants’ lives, believing himself to be some sort of savior for doing so. This split between Gi-hun and In-ho, both former winners, is one of the aspects that made Season 2 so special. Gi-hun does everything he can to stop the games while In-ho quietly uses fake loyalty and deception to gain the upper hand, constantly chasing power.

It was fun to watch this game of cat and mouse, until it came to an abrupt end. As you can see, my problem is not with Squid gamestory. It seems that in this department, Hwang Dong Hyuk can do no wrong. What makes me angry? Squid gameSeason 2, and points to a broader problem in the broadcast television industry, which is that this is just half a season, disconnected from its natural ending. You can tell me that “Season 3” is scheduled to drop next year, which is a much shorter wait than the three years that occurred between Seasons 1 and 2, but that won’t stop me from calling this what it is: Season 2, Part 1.
I’m not the first to bemoan streaming services for what they’ve done with pushing TV shows from season to season, even if they’ve skipped the first season, that is. We’re all familiar with how live stream cancellations happen, but that’s a whole other issue. The trend that makes us wait several years for a few episodes is a bad trend. Think back to when game of thrones Dominate the industry. These early seasons were released annually, which greatly benefited the series. The season will be followed by several months of fan theorizing before the hype machine starts up again as trailers start dropping for the next season. Extend that over several years and there could be a decline in interest.
There is evidence to the contrary which is, it is fair to say, unfortunate for us viewers. Squid game Fans have been waiting three years for Season 2, and this second season has now received the most views in a premiere week ever for a TV show on Netflix — evidence that should make the streamer even more confident that it can set us up for a long wait with few consequences. . That’s one topic for discussion though. I argue that what happened with fragmentation Squid gameSeason 2 is much worse.
As I mentioned, Squid game Season 2 is half the whole – and the evidence to support that is abundant. It’s perfectly fine to leave the season in suspense. This is not a new phenomenon, but it is standard practice to conclude the vast majority of the season’s events. The suspense should just be a small tease of what’s to come. Squid gameHowever, the second season of this project does not fit in at all. Withholding the showdown between Gi-hun and The Front Man is something I can accept, but the fact that the season’s matches are only halfway over? This leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

And then, of course, there are the season’s subplots, which were “abandoned” several episodes before Season 2 came to a close. We’ve given up on Jun-ho and his quest to find the games, just as we’ve also stopped following No-eul’s experiences as one of the ‘Triangle’ soldiers in the games. I use inverted commas as I say abandoned because it’s clear that both stories will continue in the upcoming third season but abandoning them temporarily, precisely because both stories barely appeared in the later episodes of season two, seems completely wrong.
In the case of No Eul, we don’t even know the significance of why we’re following her story. At least with Jun-ho, we have the established motivation of the character seeking to find his brother while also searching for Gi-hun. No-eul remains an enigma and the story gets cut short before you can determine how important he really is? Well, that seems like a strange choice.
Or maybe it wasn’t an option at all, because Hwang Dong Hyuk’s determination is clear Squid gameSeasons two and three are one seamless story. There is no natural break in the narrative, with the games remaining incomplete. Well, the fact that “season two” and “three” were filmed at once is proof enough that this is one split story, which leads me to believe that Netflix may have been the force that stepped in to demand that this next installment be split. From the saga into two separate seasons. I simply cannot understand why this would be done. There is nothing in Season 2 to indicate that it was designed to be a standalone season.
If Netflix had made us wait a month or two for the next batch of episodes, I would have been OK with that. I’m actually a fan of the streaming service’s recent move to split new seasons into Part 1 and Part 2 several weeks apart. It allows for binge-watching, hype, and repeats of yesteryear’s network TV releases, plus it ensures your viewing experience doesn’t end in a single day. if Squid gameSeason 2 of was billed as Part 1 with Part 2 arriving in, say, February or March, and I wouldn’t have questioned anything. I certainly would not have suspected interference. But possibly waiting a whole year for the so-called third season? This simply doesn’t seem like the original plan to me.

I’m not sure we’ll ever get streaming services to speed up their production schedules, so we’ll have to get used to waiting two to three years, but we can’t allow a creator’s original vision to be duplicated. Messed up if everything is ready to go. Obviously Squid game It was only designed to run over two seasons, even if the second season would need to be split into two parts spaced a short distance apart. The so-called “third season” was forced at the expense of the series’ stellar story flow. This does not benefit the viewer. It does not benefit the Creator. It’s a cheap way to ensure the longevity of a user’s subscription, and it’s not a good look for Netflix.
