It’s been reported that the creators of Secret Level submitted a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode that they turned down.
All 15 episodes of Season 1 are based on a different video gamesome of them are pretty amazing possibilities for animated adaptation. There’s also a Pac-Man episode, an Unreal Tournament episode, and a Sifu-based episode.
Speaking ColliderCreators Tim Miller and Dave Wilson discussed some of their thoughts on Amazon’s anthology series, including criticism of the video games selected for the episodes.
“I get a little bored when I read it online, and they’re like, ‘Wait, these assholes took Spelunky when they could have taken Halo?’ Or something,” Miller said. “I’m like, ‘Man, you think we haven’t talked to Halo or something?’ “
Wilson revealed that he and Miller wanted to do a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and indeed worked on a pitch for Microsoft and Doom developer id Software, but it went nowhere.
“The creative director of Id (Software) is a good friend of ours, and so are the people at Microsoft, so we made a big request, because one of the things that Tim and I would like to do is to do something that is not currently available in games, like crossovers.” , Wilson explained.
“We wanted to do a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and I spent the whole weekend working on this passionate letter from my childhood. And that’s what Tim said; they said, ‘No.'”
Miller said the pair “begged” for Half-Life, which also went nowhere.
Overall, Miller said Secret Level’s creators “did the best we could” given the restrictions and the process involved in obtaining permission to use a video game IP as the basis of an animation. “It’s not like we could have anything we wanted, or everything was available,” he said. “… we could go 10 seasons with this and still not run out of games we like.”
with that Secret Level Season 2 ConfirmedMiller and Wilson will be able to adapt more video games, although there is no release window yet. Miller said he would like to somehow release Secret Level episodes “on an annual cadence,” but “that takes a lot of faith.”
Presumably, it would also take a lot of people. In the same interview, Miller revealed the 2,500 artists from 20 counties who worked on Secret Level in the four years since its inception.
In the shorter term, Space Marine 2 modders have added an ax from Secret Level’s Warhammer 40,000 episode to the gamedelighting the fans.
