Yoshinori Kitase, Director Final Fantasy VII Rebirthrevealed that the game’s sales have been satisfactory, but that she does not feel that platform exclusivity for the main game is the right way forward.
Speaking with IGN Brazil, Kitase-san noted that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was one of the grand prize winners of the PlayStation Partners Awards in Japan. However, he feels that platform exclusivity is not viable in the future.
In terms of sales expectations, Sony held the PlayStation Partners Awards ceremony in Japan, and there was a category (the Grand Prize) in which the three best-selling games were awarded, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was one of them, along with Black Myth: Wukong and Elden the Ring: Shadow of the Erdatri. So, I think being recognized in this aspect gives me certainty that we have reached a certain level.

While we are confident and happy that we have reached a certain level of sales, it is clear that with the modernity of gaming we cannot limit ourselves to one platform. I think we need to introduce the game to as many players as possible.
Last month this was revealed Square Enix originally planned to release episodic DLC stories for Final Fantasy VII Rebirthbut he eventually scrapped the idea to focus on the next chapter in the remake project.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches in February 2024 for PS5 and you can read our full review here.
