RPS Advent Calendar 2024, December 17

Um, maybe it’s not a problem – maybe – but I’m seeing a slight discrepancy in the calendar that arrived today and… no, never mind… it’s within acceptable limits. Go ahead, open the door.

It’s a cooperative comedy and sci-fi survival game. Abiotic factor!

Brandy: I haven’t played the abiotic factor half as much as I’d like. Partly a survival game, the time-consuming genre requires you to worry about your guts even as you decorate your makeshift shelter. But also because of schedules. This game, you see, is best enjoyed with friends.

It’s basically survival. Half-life Parody Imagine if you and a group of friends were hired to work on an off-brand Black Mesawith absolutely no qualifications, and now you’re all wandering around on your first day wondering if this is what the office is like. corpse. Something has gone wrong at the remote facility and now you must survive and investigate to find out what happened. You must cook interdimensional mutant meat on the road and stay warm by hugging battery-powered heaters at night. You can also choose to feed the “colleague”, when a hungry person (?) comes to your shelter begging for crumbs, “Look, we all have larvae to feed.”

It’s funny and dirty and offers an interesting new setting for the survival genre – not the vast jungles and deserts of the outer world to fight with all those familiar elements, but the shooter of the late 1990s. There are tram systems and offices to run around in fear of mutants and security mechas. And massive internal structures that make you wonder what the hell these scientists were up to. Although there are interdimensional “portal worlds” where the climate can suddenly freeze and hit them. You might find strange bees to keep, or fish to catch, or pesky cultists to escape.

I haven’t even seen half of what the game has to offer and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the funnest survival games I’ve ever played. Subnautica. Now, if I have some time to hang out with my friends…
