Minecraft Snapshot 25w02a adds variants of pigs, wildflowers, and more

MinecraftThe latest release of Pale Gardens may have focused on Pale Gardens, but this isn’t actually the newest addition to the game.

Java Snapshot 25w02a, a test drive of upcoming content in Minecraft’s next update, has just been released. It has new pigs, some nice touches to the overworld forests, and some improvements to the Pale Garden.

The two new pig types aren’t random spawns, they’re biome-specific – and of course, they come with a reclassification of the pink pig you already know.

The current “Goldilocks Pig” is the default pig for any pig-friendly biome and cannot spawn new pigs. The “Cold Pig” is common in colder biomes such as snowy taiga and windswept cobblestone hills. While the “warm pig” prefers savannas, forests and badlands.

Each forest in the overworld has become a little more vibrant, with all of its leaf masses now featuring a particle effect reminiscent of leaves falling in the wind. It’s somewhat similar to the effects of Cherry Groves, and as with that biome, we can now also find flowers scattered along the forest floor.

Wildflowers are basically yellow versions of cherry petals from orchards, and can be found in birch forests and meadows.

In the same vein, you can now also find piles of dead leaves on the ground, in “leaf” piles with all the sound effects you’d expect from something so autumnal.

As for the Pale Garden, it was a bit bigger now, and could contain forest palaces within it. You can also put a name tag on the squeaker so it will last all day. Most importantly, there have been many small changes in Creaking Hearts, including a new idle texture.

The last big change is stone blocks – you can craft them now! And fairly easily, too – just a single iron ingot surrounded by carved stone bricks.

New model for Minecraft updates

If you’ve been seeing a lot of stories in the last couple of days Mojang‘s Various mysterious teasers – Yes, that’s what it was about.

Mojang said they are moving away from larger updates, And to “drops” – Smaller batches of content are released more frequently throughout the year. This policy has been met with a largely warm reception, and is one that today’s update will easily fit into.

Obviously, the content released in Snapshot is not finished yet, so there may be more on the way. But if we already have everything substantial, this seems like a good amount of content for a simple touch-up.

You can’t create an entire marketing campaign for “Caves & Cliffs” based on different leaves, flowers, and pig shapes, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth including in the full game. But it doesn’t need to be connected to anything greater, it’s just a nice little drop of content.
