How well does Arcane translate these heroes from the game?
Without a hero spotlight, there are limited details to come up with when trying to discover answers to classic questions with any new hero arriving to the Rift. What do her abilities do? What does her playing style look like? Which lane will you play in? While most of these questions won’t be answered at this time, there are some elements that Riot has introduced to fans, along with the unique opportunity to distill concepts for Mel from what we’ve seen in Arcane.
Mel’s character arc in Arcane sheds some light on what to expect from the character. Throughout the show, we learn that Mel’s mother, Ambesa, had an affair with a male wizard who gave Mel an innate form of magic that she discovers and begins to understand across the two seasons of Arcane.
Especially in season two, we see Mel start to get used Her magic in battle against Ambesa and Noxian mercenaries Where she is able to conjure barriers and shields that protect Caitlin in her own battle.
When Black Rose picks up Mel, LeBlanc describes her as sympathetic, explaining her deep connection to Mysterious coming out in the form of light. This light magic doesn’t just come in the form of a defensive shield, as Mel uses this light magic to break free from Black Rose’s restrictive grip on her. Even in Latest cinematic video From Riot Games and animators Arcane Fortiche, Mel is shown washing up on a random beach in Noxus where she once again battles Black Rose with her light magic loosening the ropes that once trapped her.
Recently, the Riot Games UK office gave fans a sneak peek at one of Mel’s abilities coming to the game called Rebuttal. mile channels Stab as a defensive counter spell to block and redirect incoming projectiles. Mel directs a light prism around herself, and when timed correctly, can redirect some of the most devastating projectiles in League of Legends. In the latest fashion of classic League of Legends champions, Rebuttal appears to have truly changed the game. Rebuttal will redirect any point-and-click ability back to the original caster, and with shorter range projectiles, will bend back towards the original caster as seen in Lux’s Light Binding. Fans are already anticipating what certain ability interactions will look like in Mel’s Rebuttal, along with What a cooldown time could there be for such a powerful ability This does not appear to be the ultimate ability.
The funny thing about Rebuttal is that from a video game metaphorical standpoint, the Rebuttal ability is fairly common. Overwatch and Super Smash Bros., to name a few, are games that feature characters with prominent redirection abilities, but this is the first time League of Legends fans have seen something like this. Knowing Mel’s history from Arcane and seeing her new Rebuttal ability, it appears that LoL’s newest champion will be a support mage who is expected to fulfill the role of support or midfielder. Until the champion’s highlight video is released, fans are left to speculate as the new league season approaches.
