CD Projekt says that having Ciri as the lead of The Witcher 4 will help the game explore the sexism of the wizarding world.

The announcement The Wizard 4 with The Witcher 3: Wild HuntCiri’s main character has attracted quite a bit of discussion. Some of the reaction online is that teenagers are angry that a video game has a female lead character, and especially that Shock has until now starred a male video game. Some are also commenting more cautiously on whether Ciri will make a witchy protagonist, since she isn’t the product of a typical witch genetic modification system (which is heavily biased towards males) and that’s intact. So much so, she has gifts that seem little more than Geralt’s scrappy old sword and sorcery skills.

Talking to Eurogamer this weekGame Director Sebastian Kalemba and Narrative Director Philip Weber responded to these comments in a bit, as well as sharing a bit about Ciri’s situation at the start of the game.

The particular segment of the interview in question begins with Webber being portrayed as a witch by Andrzej Sapkowski in the early Witcher books, so you’re all out of luck if you can argue with her protagonist. It doesn’t match the source material. He and Kalemba say that, yes, fair enough, Geralt is a good laugh and some people like to bring him back, but Siri is playable at points in Witcher 3, and CD Projekt wants to see what they can do. her.

“I think for me, and I think for all of us (at CDPR), it’s also really exciting to see all the possibilities that Ciri brings us, both with her character and also with who she is, what we can do with her gameplay,” Webber said. “So I think the best answer for us right now is to basically show the people who are really concerned that we’re going to do this properly and carefully when we’re ready.”

CD Projekt intends to introduce a custom Witcher 4 protagonist, according to Eurogamer Cyberpunk 2077? “I think, really, this character-driven storytelling has always been in the DNA of The Witcher games,” Weber said. “First with Geralt, and of course, we started setting up Ciri as a secondary actor in The Witcher 3 and now we want to continue with her.”

Weber adds that she is partly what makes Siri such a wonderful choice for a protag. is not Very witchy. She may not be a fully customizable character, but Grizzly Bear has room to grow as he nails his Eastern Woodland exterior as a video game leading man.

“One of the things that makes Ciri an exciting new character for us is that she’s really early in her journey as a witch,” Weber said. “So for example, Geralt was already very, very experienced. He went through a lot of things. And you know, he created his own code, he created the value of neutrality, through many experiences. And Ciri still has to do it. She has to go through many of these experiences.

“So in a way, even though Ciri is a defined character, with her, players still have the opportunity to define her more, specifically define her path to becoming a witch. And basically what kind of person that makes her.”

Naturally, Siri also promises to bring a fresh take on the vastly flawed, alternate, and twisted universe of The Witcher, a video game series that allows female characters to collect cards of vice. He entered and still likes to do the Nubile Witches show.

“I would say that the world of The Witcher is really dark, inspired by dark fantasy mythology,” Weber commented when asked about the game’s portrayal of gender politics and sexuality. “But also history from the Middle Ages to the early Renaissance, and this world was difficult – difficult for many different groups, among them women. For example, in The Witcher, we also deal with racism in relation to non-humans. And this with The Witcher 4 It’s something we want to pursue. I think it’s always something very important.

“We make games for adults, and that means we deal with some difficult topics,” he pointed out. “We solve them in interesting ways. We solve them without giving easy answers, but often we open up difficult questions for the players to answer. As a woman, and in this world as a witch, this is an unusual situation, so I don’t think this story will be everywhere, but this is this world. Because it’s a part, and we want to deal with many of these themes, it’s definitely there as well.”

There’s also the tiniest bit of hand-wave commentary about Ciri’s various supernatural abilities and how they disrupt the Witcher 3’s quest design and witch-dodge-ard combat. State, asks Eurogamer, without the talent she showed at the end of the last game? CD Projekt has nothing to share at the moment.

“No, we can’t tell you exactly how,” said Kalemba. “But like, trust us, we can tell you – it was one of the things that we had, or the first thing, that we were solving, to prove – the way that we develop here, we don’t leave anything without a clear answer.” Okay then.

Previously titled Polaris, The Witcher 4 is the first of many new Witcher experiences. You can read more about it in Our advertising post. If you’re still looking for Geralt, you’d better read about it The Witcher 1 remake In development at Fool’s Theory. I wouldn’t be surprised if it destroys some of the original game ladder elements.
