Sony has not had good luck with Live service games — whether first-party or third-party PlayStation exclusives — now has another reason to worry. The company spent $3.6 billion to buy Bungie At one time Destiny 2 He already thought he was in trouble. Now, it increasingly feels like players are moving on from the 7-year game en masse.
As Forbes’ Paul Tassie highlighted, the number of Destiny 2 players continues to dwindle significantly. The free-to-play game has lost 90% of its player base on Steam since June 2024.
This isn’t too surprising for a game released in 2017, but the fact remains that Destiny 2 continues to struggle and Bungie itself has admitted that the game’s performance is poor A little over a year ago.

However, PlayStation needs a steady revenue stream from its live service endeavors to help pump more money into its expensive single-player games.
