All the Best CPU and GPU News from CES 2025

Here’s what’s in Q1 and Q2 2025. You can find full details here here and here.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

It’s AMD’s fastest and most advanced CPU to date, with 16 or 12 cores and aimed at creators and (especially) gamers. AMD says the new chip will provide an average 8 percent performance boost in gaming frame rates and a 10 percent improvement in other tasks.

AMD Ryzen AI 5, AI 7 and AI Max

The Ryzen AI chip is not an NPU, but a CPU optimized for overall performance, including AI workloads. The first Ryzen AI CPU – the Ryzen AI 300 – was launched in late 2024, and a set of faster tracks in the Ryzen AI Max (available in seven different SKUs) is coming soon. With support for up to 16 cores and 128GB of memory, AMD says the AI Max 50 offers TOPS NPU performance. AMD naturally says that the Max is embarrassingly fast at all kinds of tasks, and boldly says that it can compete with Apple’s M4 CPU at some. Ryzen AI chips are also set to appear in mini PC designs.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 series

AMD hasn’t revealed much detail about what will differentiate its latest GPU, other than that the 9070 line will be aimed at mid-range users. More notably, AMD’s naming scheme is evolving to more closely align with how Nvidia names its products. The 9070 and 9070 XT are coming this quarter.

Nvidia

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage in a shiny jacket and spent nearly two hours describing the company’s future plans, and as expected, it’s pretty much all about artificial intelligence. But very little of the keynote covered Nvidia’s bread-and-butter GPUs, which these new products include. Full details can be found here here and here.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series

To no one’s surprise, Nvidia has announced its new graphics processor, the GeForce RTX 50 series. On the desktop, these GPUs will be available at the end of January 2025. A big advance is Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) 4 and a technology called Multi Frame Generation, which uses artificial intelligence to generate a portion of the pixel stream instead of doing it. dramatically improves performance through brute force tactics. Huang says the new graphics card has up to 4000 AI power. The highest-end card in the series – the 5090 – will cost only $1,999.

The RTX 50 series is also being scaled down for notebook applications starting in March 2025. You’ll get less than half the performance of the desktop version from the mobile version, but Huang says the AI will keep your laptop from melting down. while using. Prices for laptops equipped with RTX 50 will cost up to $2899, providing a maximum of 1850 AI TOPS power.

Nvidia GB10

It is the backbone for Nvidia Project FiguresA “personal AI supercomputer” that will bring Nvidia’s Blackwell AI platform to the masses. Want to get results offline on your desktop? Numbers and the GB10 “AI superchip” will make this possible with 1 petaflop (1000 TOPS) of performance. The system will cost at least $3,000 and will be launched in May 2025.
