Q: ECCO dolphin It has been praised by raising awareness about preserving the ocean. What inspired you to use a video game to deliver such an important environmental message, and what do you hope that the players will take away from their experience in the world of the ocean you created?
A: For a long time, in the eight days, I used to do the educational games for Apple II. I even knew the possibility of enlightenment. I have made a set of games in 6502 Assembler, or my favorite machine language.
In the end, I got the work on the “MIMI trip”, a television program for a small boy (Ben Affleck in 12) and his grandfather, who studied the migration of the whale on his boat, Mimi. He was great View, I did work in the Apple II scientific games with it.
Once you started getting to know the whales (and making games from it), she became obsessed with the topic.
I read everything I can get. No internet, only libraries and books you bought from libraries. Like the novel, “Possibility”, written by Hank Serles. This story was from the point of view of the sperm whale. I was fascinated by the idea that these creatures were not only emotional, but may be smart as we are!
My heart was always in video games, although I made learning games for a living at the time. I started dreaming about the game in which life is facing as dolphins. I chose the dolphin because I thought it was close to the person like all whales. But when I thought about the actual gameplay mechanics, I had to the initial model.
Q: The Pacific Island community carries a deep spiritual and practical relationship with the ocean, which is essential to their culture. How do you think games are like ECCO dolphin Can players help understand the importance of preserving the ocean and the cultures you depend on?
A: Imagine a directly connected culture with the ecosystems of the ocean over generations. Growth and development together, humans contribute to the ecosystem instead of imposing taxes on it. Over time, they were learning about all ocean cycles and how to enter into synchronization with them. Anything that enhances the relationship between humans and the ocean should be enthusiastic.
Q: As a pioneer in the game industry, what role do you think that the gaming community plays in increasing awareness of global issues such as environmental sustainability, especially when it comes to protecting the ecosystems of oceans?
A: If I am honest with my bias for the players. I feel that the players have higher intelligence than the average person. Not only because it is often fully involved and mentally challenged with systems in actual time and information technology, but it is very socially linked as well. Like the ocean, the gaming community is an ecosystem – games like ECCO can be a channel to join these worlds.
A large part of the game is to understand the ocean as a unique biological system consisting of systems that interact with each other. This is a complex biological dance that humans can be part of.
I have great expectations for players for all the reasons mentioned above. But there is something else that players have a difference, and this is love. Global love for games and games gives us everything we all share, when games like ECCO reaches the hearts of gaming societies, this love can happen in the real world.
Q: What does the future hold for the favorite dolphins in games?
A: I and the entire original team will be reformulated ECCO dolphin and Tide and islands games. Then we will make a file A new third match With contemporary play and GPU. Stay tuned eccathedolphin.com
