Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League can’t even be given away, what went wrong? -Platform

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Not a bad game, it just didn’t make any sense. I remember being initially excited about the game when the first trailer was revealed, and even more so when I realized it was being made by Rocksteady Studios.

The Batman: Arkham trilogy was groundbreaking on many levels, and is still treated as the gold standard when it comes to adapting a superhero into a video game format.

As time went on, I became less enthusiastic, as the initial gameplay felt weird, the roster was small, and the promise of live service updates sounded like the same thing we’d heard over and over again.

However, during the preview and time I spent reviewing it, I actually had a decent time, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to fully click in with what Rocksteady Studios was promoting this time around, and I certainly wasn’t alone in that either.

Now, the game is regularly on sale for under £5, and to make matters worse, it’s free to download and keep forever via Amazon Prime Gaming and now PlayStation Plus Essential, yet no one really wants that.

Do you have any idea how bad a mess you make when you can’t Donate Copies of your game? With that in mind, I’ve been racking my brain to think about what went wrong, and although this is a worrying list, I think I’ve narrowed it down to one crucial issue, He is afraid.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League failed because it was too safe in its design, which hurts even more when you remember that it comes from a studio that gave us revolutionary games just years ago.

Take the story for example. The rogue Justice League has been unleashed on the world, leaving the villains the only ones who can save the day. Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot aren’t exactly on par with the Justice League, so that sets the stakes pretty high on how they’ll be defeated. Instead of exploring counterintuitive ways to exploit the heroes’ weaknesses, or rounding up other villains who could compete with them, the Suicide Squad finds creative ways to shoot them down instead. Superman’s boss fight takes about 10 minutes of shooting the Man of Steel with golden kryptonite bullets.

Again, this comes from the same studio that turned Killer Croc into an annoying game of cat and mouse, and Mr Freeze into a boss that adapts to your playstyle, so I ask where was the creativity?

Everything you do in the game is pretty much meaningless anyway, as it’s revealed in the DLC that they weren’t even Justice League, just copies. This isn’t just a “shake, we have a chance!” Moment either Most of the planet has been wiped out by this point, and Wonder Woman is a pile of ash, so it’s hardly a time to celebrate.

Many would blame it on the looter-shooter genre the game was built around, and I agree to an extent, but again it’s Rocksteady Studios that is behind it. Batman: Arkham Asylum He took this simple type of stroke and developed it into something elegant. The free-form combat was unprecedented and the predator encounters felt very dynamic and fun to experience.

Now I’m not saying that a shooter could achieve similar levels of creativity, but it could have been there attempt at least. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League It might have worked with a new IP, but with familiar territory like the Arkhamverse, it seemed jarring and a waste of time overall.

Live service games aren’t doomed to fail; Hell Divers 2 This is a great example of that, it’s not about the genre of the game, it’s how far the game was willing to go to tell its story and entertain. I actually had fun during Batman’s boss fight, as being on the receiving end of a Predator encounter was a nice evolution from the previous games. It was fun until the objective changed to “Shoot the Giant Nightmare Bat”, like every other fight in the game. The Flash fight was “Shoot the speed guy when he stands still”, and the Green Lantern fight was “Shoot the green guy with paint Yellow,” and the Superman fight was “Shoot God with the Shining Bullets.”

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League It didn’t fail because it was a looter shooter, or because it preferred the live-service format, but it failed because it was creatively bankrupt. The DLC confirms this as the new characters don’t do much to differentiate themselves from the main roster, and the additional quests and boss battles are exactly the same as what we had in the base game.

For what will likely be the Arkhamverse’s last breath before a full reboot happens, it was a miserable disappointment, and I’m not surprised no one wanted to play it even if it were free.
