Cat bird
A good way to come up with a concept for anything is to just combine two words. This is what Ryomi did with Cat Bird. As the title states, you are a cat with bird-like qualities, specifically wings and the ability to fly short distances. With this main character and mechanic, a series of levels were created to test them out. There’s a bit of a space theme as the Catbird finds itself in a number of different environments that may or may not be different planets. It’s a fun platformer that’s all about navigating through short levels as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Dadish
Vegetables are alive, but not to the degree that we view them as having communities and families. However, Thomas K. Young changes our thoughts on this matter with Dadish. This bag details the main character, Radish who is also a father. This short game starts when Dadish is taking a nap and all his kids decide to run away. He then takes it upon himself to leap and bound across hazards and across ecosystems to rescue one of his children at the end of each level. They are short, challenging and have a young star to look for an extra target.

Cut the rope
This point has already been made countless times before, but I’ll repeat it by saying that it’s not often that the title tells you the goal of the game. ZeptoLab has made things quite clear with Cut the Rope. You take care of a little lizard creature called Om Nom who depends on you for food, specifically colorful round candies. Unfortunately, the candy was hung out of reach by a rope. By manipulating all the devices and physics at play, your goal is to arrange a path for the candy to reach Om Nom the moment the rope is cut. There are a set of levels with stars that you can collect to prove your creativity.

Before your eyes
There are so many theories and ideas about how the afterlife is arranged, that entire games are based on this concept. When Netflix launched its own gaming studio, it decided to explore this idea with Before Your Eyes. This visually appealing short game has you playing from the first-person perspective of a recently deceased person reminiscing about the life story of a mysterious character known as the Boatman. It combines interesting touch and motion mechanics that symbolize looking around while complying with blinking when asked. It is an honest and emotional experience during a short Sufi journey.

Happy game
One effective marketing tactic is to come up with mislabeled titles, which are proven as soon as you enter them. Happy Game by Amanita Design is a perfect example of this. This is a point-and-click game, with puzzles and disturbing images. You play as a young boy who is having nightmares about another entity. The only way to stop nightmares is to get into them and regain the source of happiness. If you can do this, you and the boy may finally be able to get a good night’s sleep.
